The Systems
The Systems#
The adaptations page names mechanisms and moves on. This part explains them properly, organised by the four systems used to classify each adaptation: neural, muscular, connective and cardiovascular.
Read these when a term in Part One raised a question rather than answered one. Nothing here is a prerequisite.
-
Neural
Motor units, recruitment, rate coding and how the nervous system learns movement.
-
Muscular
Fibre types, contraction, energy systems and the mechanisms of growth.
-
Connective
Tendon, ligament, fascia and bone - the slowest tissues to adapt.
-
Cardiovascular
The oxygen cascade from heart to mitochondria, and what limits it.
